Amethyst Geography Fieldwork

Today, Amethyst Class went down Brooklyn Drive looking at the different houses as part of our project on houses and homes.
We collected information on whether the houses were bungalows, dormer bungalows or houses; whether they were detached, semi-detached or terraced and whether they had lawns and garages.
We used this to help in our recount writing back in class.

KS1 Chocolate Making and Charity Sale

As part of our KS1 spring topic: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory KS1 children designed, made and sold a variety of chocolate based products.

Amethyst, Diamond and Emerald children designed their 'special edition' chocolates using a base of milk, white or dark chocolate accompanied by other ingredients such as strawberry laces, rice crispies, mint sticks, marshmallows, butterscotch, chocolate drops and honeycomb.

After making their products in food technology lessons each was packaged or boxed in preparation to sell to year 5/6 children in Sapphire, Ruby and Topaz.

All profits raised from the sale will be donated to the school charity: WWF (World Wildlife Fund).

Across the three classes a total of £40.54 was raised,

Well done to all KS1 children for their efforts and to the 5/6 children who kindly purchased.

Multicultural Week in Diamond Class

In Diamond class during multicultural week we learnt all about France.  We began the week looking at maps, landmarks and the different activities that are popular in France.  We learnt some basic greetings and several possible responses.  Towards the end of the week we enjoyed taste testing some foods; bread, croissants, hot chocolate and even some French cheeses!  So... if you see someone from Diamond class, remember to ask them... Ca va?

Multicultural Week in Amethyst Class

During multicultural week, the children of Amethyst class learnt about Jamaica!

We found out about:

  • the flag;
  • countries that controlled Jamaica over the last 500 years;
  • a map of the country;
  • animals that you could see there;
  • the music of Bob Marley.
All the children enjoyed it very much and at the end of the week we had a chance to visit other classes and share what they found out.

Multicultural Week - Emerald - Canada

During multicultural week Emerald class focused on Canada.

Throughout the week we looked at the Geography of Canada, Canadian money, Canadian food and listened to the national anthem of Canada.

It was fun learning about another Country.

At the end of the week we shared our research with Topaz class and Opal class.

One fact we found was: Canada is the second largest Country in the world.
