Amethyst, Diamond & Emerald Blog - Friday 27th May 2022

Happy Friday, everybody! Unbelievably we have made it half term again! We have all had such fun in Key Stage 1 learning about our "At The Seaside" project and the children have loved sharing all the information and facts they have gathered in a range of different ways. We have also been looking at pollution and learning about how to care for the world around us as it says in Article 24; every child has the right to a clean environment.

Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

The children looked fabulous in their red, white and blue today and we all enjoyed a Jubilee picnic on the field today!

Have a Great Half Term

At half term we feel strongly that children should have a rest so we do not send homework books home. All we ask is that the children read a little over the week to keep up their amazing progress in this area. We hope that you enjoy your own Jubilee celebrations (feel free to send us any photos!) and look forward to seeing all the children back at school on Tuesday 7th June!

Happy Celebrations!

Amethyst, Diamond & Emerald Blog - Friday 20th May 2022

Happy Friday, everybody! What a beautiful, sunny week we have all enjoyed in Key Stage 1 this week! Oh no, now it's raining! And now it's sunny again! Due to the very changeable weather at the moment, can you please ensure that your child comes to school ready for anything the Great British Weather can throw at them! Please also ensure that all cardigans and coats are clearly named. Before we move on to our messages for next week, we have an exciting date to announce!

Sports Day 2022

Sport's Day will be held this year on Friday 8th July! This will be in the morning for KS2 and in the afternoon for KS1. All parents will be able to come and watch this year and there will be a picnic lunch which you can attend as well. There will be further details to follow but we wanted you to have the date in your diary now so you can make plans as need be. We are looking forward to seeing you all there!

Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

On Friday 27th May, we will be marking the Queen's Platinum Jubilee with a special picnic lunch for the children. You should have received a letter this week which you can either give your lunch preference or state that that your child will be bringing a packed lunch from home. Please return this slip by Monday next week at the latest if you have not already done so.

The PTA have also arranged a non-school uniform day for Friday 27th May and have asked children to wear red, white and/or blue clothing for a suggested donation of £1.

Maths Homework

This week we would like you to look at pages 58-59.

For Year 1's this looks at telling the time on an analogue clock. For Year 1, the expectation is that children can read the time to the hour and the half hour.

Below are some games for reinforcing these ideas, scroll down on the page for games relating to time:

For Year 2's, this is looking at 2D shapes. As well as being able to name common 2D shapes, children need to be able to describe their mathematical properties e.g. how many sides or vertices (corners) it has, whether it is symmetrical and if it has any right angles.

Below are some games for exploring shapes:

Don't forget to keep up all your fantastic efforts with your reading at home as well as either your phonics or comprehension homework books - it will make a huge impact on your child's reading development.

As always, we are available on our Key Stage 1 email. However, we would encourage you to come and see us at the end of the day if there are any issues or questions that you have. Just come down the steps to see us!

Amethyst, Diamond & Emerald Blog - Friday 13th May 2022

Happy Friday, everybody! Another week has flown by here in Year 1/2 - I guess this is what happens when everyone works so very hard!

We live in eternal hope that the summer arrives soon so would like to remind you on hot days how important it is for the children to bring their water bottle and sun hats to stay safe in the sun. Please apply sun cream to your child in the morning before school. Children can bring in cream to reapply at lunch time but please make them aware that they will need to do this themselves.

Maths Homework

This week we would like you to look at pages 56-57.

For Year 1's this continues to look at days of the week. Again, discuss the order of these measures of time and attach a meaning to each of them e.g. we do PE on Monday, we go to athletics club on Friday.

For Year 2's, this is looking at comparing intervals of time. It is important here to look at how units of time relate. So when comparing 40 minutes with 1 hour we need to know that an hour is 60 minutes therefore longer than 40 minutes.

Below are some games for reinforcing these ideas, scroll down on the page for games relating to time:

Amethyst, Diamond & Emerald Blog - Friday 6th May 2022

Happy Friday, everybody! We hope you are all keeping well. This week we have been diving into the secret life of rockpools and all the amazing creatures that live in these habitats. The children have been fascinated by this so apologies for the requests to go to the seaside!

Maths Homework

This week we would like you to look at pages 54-55.

For Year 1's this looks at days of the week and months of the year. Discuss the order of these measures of time and attach a meaning to each of them e.g. we do PE on Monday, my birthday is in May etc. Also discuss how units of time relate to each other e.g. 7 days in a week, 12 months in a year.

For Year 2's, this is looking at reading the time. The expectation for the end of Year 2 is for the children to be able to read the time to the quarter hour (o'clock, quarter past, half past, quarter to). However, for those children secure in this we do look at time to 5 minute intervals.

Below are some games for reinforcing these ideas, scroll down on the page for games relating to time:
