Year 1 & 2 - Friday 3rd April

Good Morning All

We have made it to Friday, good work everyone!

Jigsaw PSHE Resources

I am happy to share some resources from our Jigsaw PSHE programme which we have been granted permission to send to you as home learning. Today you should all be receiving a link via your child's email account which will take you directly to these resources.

There are two stories, some suggested discussion prompts and learning activities to accompany them,  also the 'calm me' sessions that are part of usual Jigsaw sessions in class.  The stories are audio files only so it's a perfect chance to create a calm and quiet space for everyone in the house to listen together and share responses in discussion afterwards.  In fact, the more people that take part the better!

At the end of story 1 - 'Fowley's Wings', you are each invited to complete an activity of designing your own set of wings adorned with your own dreams and goals, either long term goals, or just for the here and now.  If you are taken with this idea and manage to make a set of wings, please do share via the Down Hall PTA page so that our children (and us too!) might benefit from sharing positive messages in the midst of all the current uncertainty.

Activity Based Learning

Choosing from the garden bird spotter sheet on the page above, explore further some bird facts using the search box on this page of the RSPB website.

https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/wildlife-guides/bird-a-z/

Once you have found the page for your chosen bird you can play the audio clip and listen to its' song.  Sometimes birds are hard to spot but another way to spot them is to listen out for their song, so find a comfortable spot in the garden or next to an open window.  With such little traffic and activity at the moment noise pollution is minimal and it should be easier for you to hear the different bird songs.  The collared dove is a good one to start with as the song is very different to other birds.

You could extend this activity to include some maths by designing your own data collection table or tally chart to record your results for each session, or alternatively, some sentence writing by making a fact card for each bird that you investigate.  Try to memorise some of these facts and play a game collecting points for each fact remembered.   If not, do not worry, you can save this for another day and just enjoy the therapeutic sound of the birds!

We look forward to seeing maybe a few of your beautiful sets of wings shared on the PTA page.  Have a great day!
