Geography - Seaside Features
As part of our "At The Seaside" project, we would be looking at the different environmental features of the seaside. Firstly we would identify these features and discuss what they were and how they came to be. Secondly, we would sort them in terms of whether they are:
Human features - something that is artificial and has been made by people for a purpose;
Physical features - a naturally occurring feature that has been formed by the Earth.
Here are some features to identify and name (it is also on our class page on the website):
And here is your teacher's crib-sheet!
Going left to right across the pictures this is the order they are shown.
Human features - 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13
Physical features - 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16
Spend some time thinking more deeply about each picture. For example, the breakwater feature is an artificial sea wall designed to make an area of calm water for boats to dock. If you look carefully at the picture you can compare the sea outside the breakwater to that within the breakwater.
You can discuss how a sea arch will eventually become a sea stack as the top collapses into the sea.
Also important is to make links to previous learning, so in the sand dunes picture you can see the marram grass and how it's roots "catch" the sand.
When it comes to sorting the features, if we were in school we would cut the pictures out and sort practically. If you are not able to print then simply divide a piece of paper in half and draw your own pictures or simply write the name of the feature to sort them into the human features and the physical features.
English - MyOn Books
It has been good to see people accessing the 5000+ books on MyOn ( www.myon.co.uk ). Incredibly, since the school closed, 1810 books have been read by children from Amethyst, Diamond and Emerald classes - just wow! Rather than set up a project on MyOn this week, we have given you a book list for some titles that support the above learning and work that we will be doing on seaside animals on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Firstly log in - email ks1@downhallprimary.com if you cannot remember your log in and I will email it back to you.
Then click on the Library tab at the top and then Search:
From here you can type in a book title from below, hover over the picture and click Read. Don't forget you can click on the play triangle at the bottom if you want the book read to you.
